The American Cross Country team ran its last league match of the year at Quarry Lakes during MVALs on November 12, 2015.
“It is exciting that we are done with the season, but it’s also really sad because we’re not going to see the seniors again,” JV runner Charumathi Murugesan (10) said. “It is mixed emotions; we don’t really know how to feel about it.”
Seniors left with high hopes for their underclassmen, who will carry on the team in future years.
“It feels amazing because it’s the final meet with the rest of my teammates, frosh-soph, junior varsity, and varsity,” varsity runner Samuel Wong (12) said. “I’m going to miss them because I’m not going to see them for a couple months until track and field. I hope they will continue to prosper, become better at running, and become faster over the years.”
Varsity boys took 11th, 18th, 19th, 25th and 29th place, while varsity girls took 14th, 17th, 23rd, 29th, and 32nd place.
“The team performed fairly well today,” Coach John said. “We’ve only had eight weeks of practice, so with the small amount of time that we’ve had, we can’t do better than this. The season finished better than we started because we beat some of the teams that we lost to at the start of the season. This just shows the progress we made through the season. Overall, all the athletes performed really well.”
Individual runners are looking forward to further improvement in years to come.
“Overall this was my best season yet, I improved so much since last year and just can’t wait for next season and track,” Zackary Felten (10) said.
Select members of the team will be running their final race of the year at NCS on Saturday, November 21, 2015.
