It’s the guys who have to change not our wardrobe

“Boys will be boys”, therefore girls are not allowed to wear shorts or spaghetti strap tank tops and strapless shirts.
The summer heat has started taking a toll on some of the students at American High School. With not all of the classroom’s air conditioning working 100% of the time and the weather being in the 80s and 90s, there have been some recent conflict with the dress code for females.
In the FUSD Board Policy 5132 it states that tank tops, off-the shoulder or short blouses showing the stomach or midriff are not allowed. It also states that pupils may not wear shorts or mini-skirts that are higher than mid-length (end of fingertips when arms is at side).
The dress code is understandable in which girls are not allowed to come to school in shorts that barely cover their gluteus maximus or shirts that are barely longer than a bra.
But beside that why are girls not allowed to wear tank tops or strapless shirts and dresses without having a sweater over the top?
I was dress coded for wearing a one shoulder dress, where one of my shoulders was showing. How possibly does this affect mine or other student’s learning ability?
It seems as if this dress code is only in existent because those types of clothing are “distracting” to the males at American. So the females have to suffer through this heat because the males are struggling to pay attention in class because a girl in front of them in class is showing a little bit of shoulder.
This dress code is basically teaching girls that it is our fault for guys harassing us by what we are wearing. Instead of the girls having to compensate their wardrobe, the school should be focusing on teaching the males how to respect females.
The dress code should not be made to keep boys being boys. The school should not be be teaching females to feel guilty for what guys do and think of them because of them wearing shorts or tank tops in hot weather.
The male population at American needs to learn how to respect and control themselves around the females because the females should not have to take the blame for the males disruption.
