For a change this year, Crafts and Baking Club is selling easter egg grams instead of the usual bake sale during the week before Spring Break.  Members are taking pre-orders for those who wish to purchase Easter grams that will later be hand-made and distributed in April.

Officers have been stationed at the SAC the week of March 17th to the 20th during lunch.  Flyers and announcements have been made to advertise and spread awareness of the easter egg grams.

“We want lots of students to know about it because it’s a change; we’ve never done anything like this.  Someone proposed the grams as an idea during a collaborative meeting, and we rolled with it,” Crafts and Baking Club President Aswini Krishnan (12) said.  “Generally during fundraising week, we have a bake sale with homemade treats, but due to the California State Law on Healthy Schools we decided to do this instead.”

The easter grams were originally designed by the Crafts and Baking Club. The sellers are aiming for 100 pre-orders within the span of the next couple of weeks. Students are welcome to buy as many grams as wished. “If we exceed our goal, we’ll make more and place a limit on the number each buyer can order,” Crafts and Baking Club Publicist Anisha Singh (11) said.

The California State Law poses many restrictions upon the types of foods that are sold at the school; ones with a high calories, sugar or fat content are prohibited.

The Crafts and Baking Club officers are in charge of making the baskets that will hold the easter eggs.  The eggs will each have a personalized message in them, provided by the sender and addressed to the recipient.

“They are standard, plastic, colored eggs chosen at random,” Krishnan said.  “We’re going to split the load, the other officers and I, to make the origami baskets by hand.”

“At first we thought fortunes would be a cute idea, but we figured that a note from the sender would be a nicer way to show how much you appreciate that person,” Ninth Grade Representative Tanya Malik said.  “Plus you can get them for really cheap!”

Easter egg grams can be pre-ordered or purchased for $1.00 each and will be distributed during third or fourth period, the week of April  14th, before Spring Break.
