The Girls’ Restroom Conditions are in need of help

From broken toilet seats and the murky smell, the girls’ restrooms at American High School are far from pleasant.

According to the California Department of Education it is required for secondary schools, to have one toilet for every forty students.

There is a total of 925 female students at American High School and a total of twenty seven restroom stalls. But out of those twenty seven only fifteen are available for students to use before school, brunch, lunch, during class and after school. This leaves 925 female students using those fifteen stalls the majority of the day, basically sixty two students to one stalls.

The girls’ restrooms have a lack of needed supplies. There is rarely any soap in the soap dispensers, out of the few that are not broken. There is no way to stop the thousands of germs and illnesses without the help of soap for students to wash their hands after they use the restroom.

Also about only one out of the five stalls have toilet seat covers. Even though you may not actually get any diseases without using a toilet seat cover, there’s an undeniable “ick factor” when it comes to sitting on top of something that countless bare-butted strangers have also sat on.

One out of the three soap dispensers in one of the girls’ restrooms in the rotunda are broken. To keep students healthy and clean all soap dispensers should work and have soap in there. “The restrooms are not sanitary and the sinks are rarely ever clean,” senior Kylee Cooksey said. “I try my best to not use the restrooms at school."

Far from last the little walk-mounted waste bins on the wall in the stalls are overflowing with female sanitary trash before the first school bell rings in the morning. Not only is this pleasant to look at or smell it is unsanitary.

The girls’ restrooms at American High School are in desperate need to be fixed up. These are minor problems that can get fixed.

There should be a soap dispenser to go with every sink in the restrooms and they should all be filled with soap. Every restroom stall should have toilet seat covers for students to use if they want to. Lastly, the waste bins should be empty after brunch, lunch and after school.

Students shouldn’t have to cringe when they have to step into the restrooms or wait seven hours until they get home to use the restroom.
