“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” will be adapted into a movie.
On September 12, Warner Bros. announced that J.K. Rowling will be writing the screenplay for the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” The film, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” originally a book written by Rowling, will surprisingly not feature Harry Potter at all. The story actually follows magizoologist Newt Scamander, a professor of Magical Creatures, and how he comes to write the book that Harry and his friends use at Hogwarts seventy years later.
The Harry Potter books and movies have affected people all over the world. Since Rowling will be very involved in the production of the “Beasts” movie, there is a lot of pressure on her to do a good job continuing the Harry Potter era.
“I like it when authors get involved in movies,” sophomore Allyson Baca said. “[Rowling] created the Wizarding World, so it’d be cool to see the magic continue on in her hands.”
The magic will definitely continue on, but it seems that Harry Potter’s adventures will not.
“Leaving Harry Potter out of the story is a good idea,” sophomore Naomi Kakatin said. “Since it’s a new book, it should focus on a different story.”
However, not all people are keen on the idea of a different main character.
“Leaving out Harry Potter is a huge risk,” sophomore Kaitlyn Baca said. “People who have read the books have fallen in love with those characters and those stories. Introducing a new story could ruin the books and movies for [Harry Potter] fans and even cause them to lose interest.”
Although the series may have finished, thousands of Harry Potter fans throughout the world have kept Harry Potter alive by rewatching the movies, rereading the books, and going on pottermore.com, a website that creates a Hogwarts experience for Harry Potter fans.
Harry Potter’s journey may have come to an end, but the Wizarding world still remains with its arms wide open.
