MBTI or Myers-Brigg personality tests have gained widespread popularity due to their immense and surprising accuracy. This raises the question: Why are people so attracted to take the test and whether or not the results represent who they are as an individual? Very few people have questioned the validity of this particular test as it is mostly described as being “understanding” and “diverse”.
An American High School teacher, Ms. Reid encourages her students to take the test as a way of finding out their strengths and how they act.
“It was an eye-opening experience for most of my students as they got to know more about themselves. I was able to help those who were hurt and were going through a lot to get a better impression of them.”
Amanda Tran (12) explains how the results have helped her learn more about herself and takes them into consideration.
“The tests do embody me as a person, however since I am still growing, my MBTI personality will most likely change from time to time. I do find the results pretty accurate, however they do not encapsulate 100% of who I am as a person. I think people should take the test because it’s fun and just to understand their personalities better and find out new things about themselves.”
It is common knowledge that no personality test will ever be 100% accurate. However, the overwhelming amount of positive reviews and feedback from those who have taken the MBTI test completely outdo any other test on the Internet. Despite any doubts as to the test’s validity, it remains overwhelmingly popular.
Rylee Reyes (11) explains how the results helped her with better understanding herself and her emotions.
“I took this test a while back in quarantine and got Assertive Protagonist, also known as (ENFJ-A), and it is really interesting to me how much my personality has changed during the span of this time. In a way, I do agree with my results because I have come to better terms with my emotions. According to the results, campaigners really enjoy having deep emotional connections with people and I can see that resonating with myself.”
Like Reyes says, “It really did help me a lot because at that time in my life, I didn’t know what was going on in my life and was unsure if anyone else was going through the same thing. Knowing that this is a personality type, it kind of gave me the idea that I am not the only one having these feelings of isolation.”
