An overview of AHSPA’s The Play that Goes Wrong
AHSPA’s cast and crew blew the student body away with their latest production, The Play that Goes Wrong. This play is centered on actors who are performing The Murder at Haversham Manor, messing up their lines and having many hilarious mishaps. However, even getting things wrong takes a lot of time to get right.
Divya Eashwar (12), who plays Rachel Grove in The Play that Goes Wrong (who plays Mary Colleymore in The Murder at Haversham Manor) said, “The play had many unexpected scenes that were really hard to pull off. Also, so many things actually went wrong; I don’t think anyone said their lines perfectly.” While to the cast and crew, issues like these might be more obvious, as a member of the audience, these mishaps seemed like a part of the play and added to the comedic effect overall.

From the perspective of the audience, the play had many ridiculously funny highlights and was such an entertaining watch. At one point, most of the props fell in the middle of a scene, forcing the actors to hold them up while delivering their lines. These props didn’t just fall on their own, however; it was the work of months of coordination and effort from the crew of the play, working behind the scenes to create the magic you saw on stage.
Director Ms. Benedetti pointed out, “I think this show was the most technically challenging show we have done.”
Props master Yumeng Fang (10) further explained, “There was a lot of coordination that went into making the show run smoothly, but I’m so glad with how it went. I think we all, as a crew, did a phenomenal job with really making the play come to life.”
