On May 8th, 2025, AHS sophomore class trudged out of the AP World History exam with their brain: leaking out of their ears, and readied up for the next day’s Sophomore Banquet.

Hosted by the year’s student council, the Sophomore Banquet celebrated the achievements of sophomores throughout this school year. “This is something that we thought that the class would really, really like,” Ikjot Bali (10), a member of the student council, said. “The idea was to have another way to get hype for our class.”

“We wanted people to show up and have fun for a day, especially after AP World,” Prisha Patel (10), the council secretary, added.

At the event, streamers decorated the room. One corner boasted a letter writing table. There, it declared that sophomores could write a letter to their senior-selves, which council would save for them. The other end of the gym held a variety of free food, from the standard finger foods to a giant cake.

Students mingled and chatted excitedly, music blasting their ears out. “It’s been really fun so far,” Anson Wong (10) said.

Despite this, the attendance was both higher than expected, though still low. Students outside of the banquet joked that there were only thirty people there, while the organizers revealed that more people had arrived than they thought.

This is due in part to many students opting not to attend. One sophomore admitted that he had seen a social media post about the event but did not feel inclined to go. “Maybe feel go if my friends went,” he said.

As they plan to host a banquet every year, the organizers are determined to do their best to improve. “We’re also gonna be post-some feedback,” Bali said.
