A study by WalletHub, a financial planning and consulting company, ranked Fremont, California the happiest city in America.
As accessed from Wallethub.com, “In order to determine the happiest cities in America, WalletHub compared 182 of the largest cities across three key dimensions: Emotional & Physical Well-Being, Income & Employment and Community & Environment.”
Santiago Sanchez (11) echoed a similar sentiment. “What makes the city happy is probably how safe it is. And opportunities that people have in that city, to get the jobs they want, to live in the houses they want, and to just be safe and know that their kids are safe,” said Sanchez (11).
Leo Nguyen (11) said, “the crime rate here is really low and there’s a lot of resources for people who are financially struggling, which creates a nice positive environment.”
Aaron Tai (11) agreed with the importance of a supportive community. “Everyone is very kind, very social. They make Fremont a really enjoyable place to live,” said Tai.
“I can see there’s a lot of support groups around and scholarships for different people. Which shows that we are accepting and we give opportunity to everyone. Community is really important in happiness as it allows others to help each other out of darker situations,” said Nguyen.
Less praise has been given to Fremont’s government. “The city conditions could be a lot better. For example, the road conditions are a little lackluster and general infrastructure is a little rundown,” said Nguyen.
“There’s so many better places than Fremont. It’s expensive here. I feel like the more money you have the happier you’ll be,” said Issa Abukhazneh. “[The government] needs to do a lot to fix this place. They were talking about tearing down certain buildings to make low income households, which is like a start but she needs to do a little more than that.”

You can see they know it’s not [the happiest city] and anytime anyone hears ‘Fremont’s the happiest city in America,’ they get shocked, especially if they’re from Fremont,” said Issa Abukhazneh (11).
