On Monday, April 7th, 2025, around 1,500 FUSD teachers gathered outside the FUDTA (Fremont Unified District Teachers’ Association) office on Paseo Padre Parkway, in which the final required fact-finding meeting was taking place behind closed doors. Representatives of the union, the district, and a state-appointed neutral party led the negotiations to a backdrop of chanting outside. It is the last meeting before teachers will be legally allowed to go on strike.
The protest was reportedly the largest in FUDTA history. Union protesters marched on the side of the road for over two hours, demanding smaller class sizes, better pay, and health insurance. Fact-finding results are expected to be released on April 15th, and only then can a strike be formally announced.
